Editor Talin

The Project:

An established editor was looking for a marketing platform for her services and she came to me to help her create a solution to increase engagement with her services.

The Process:

To kickoff, I started by asking my client what she wanted this website to do for her; what her values are for her work, what her ideal client is, and how she chooses the clients she works with (if she does this currently). Through these answers, I was able to begin to understand my client's brand.

From here, I did a vision and mission workshop with my client. I worked with her to arrive at a succinct vision by asking probing qualitative questions in a 1:1 in-person session. I guided her to identify her values and how she implements them in her work. I gave her worksheets to complete as a takeaway from our meeting to help her document her ideas. In a follow-up, I challenged her to tie together her values into one actionable mission statement that clearly reflected back to her overall vision for her editing business.

The Vision:

"To help people communicate using language that is clear, concise, confident and correct."

Woman Reading a Book

Once the vision and mission were defined, I was able to begin designing the web platform. I designed some template pages and high-level navigation using industry-tested best UI practices, using her vision and mission to structure her templated pages in a way that reflected her business values. While I did this I asked her to define her content, giving her another worksheet to have her break down all her content ideas into bite-sized chunks and organize her ideas. Once she completed this work, I used them to inform my information hierarchy and navigation.

The Solution:

Once the 10-page templated website was complete, I invited my client back for a review cycle. The client was able to see the way I took the content she gave me and implement it into the structuring and tone of her website. From there I worked to polish the visuals to her liking and placed final touches on UI and navigation.

Once the website was complete I was also able to leverage the worksheets completed in the strategy phase to craft a logo that supported her new web platform’s style and content.

After launching her website, my client got four times the amount of engagement for her editing services. Not only was she receiving more clients but she was attracting the right kinds of clients, ones that fit the kind of work she wanted to pursue.
